Earthworm Care

HOW TO FEED YOUR EARTHWORMS:

The best way to feed your worms is in strips or areas.Dig a hole or trench in the bed and then cover the food over with at least an inch of worked material(this helps reduce flies and smells)Then cover with damp newspaper (3 to 4 pages thick) . Each time you feed start in a different area or strip(a good way to remember where you last fed is to use a couple of sticks)

Note:It is important that you dont cover the whole top area of the worm bed with food. The worms need a bit of space to move to.That way if the area where you placed the food gets to hot, or contains something they dont like, they can move to another area for a while.

Moisture level:

To test if there is enough moisture in the the worm bed .Dig into the worm bed with a gloved hand and grab a handfull of worked food (not where you have just fed )Squeeze the handfull, you should get a couple of drops of moisture.

If you dont get a couple of drops, just give the worm bed a light spraying of water.

If the worm bed is to wet you can add dry leaves or dry shreaded newspaper (dig them into the bed)
